Putin once said something like democracy really being about who had more money, in otherwords the person with more money would win the election.  Who also said something about what was important was not how many votes there were but who counted the votes.

Money is very important in determining who people vote for.  Money enables candidates to advertise their positions and to attack their opponents and advertise those attacks so many people see them.  The attacks might not be true and often aren't but they convince people and manipulate how people vote.  One of the attacks on Trump by the Kamala campaign was that he would end democracy.  They justified that by saying that he encouraged the january 6 insurrection which was against Democracy.  What he really did was encourage a protest and nothing is more Democratic than people raising their voices in protest.

Trump doesn't like abortion and many women don't want government interfering in their ability to abort their babies.  So the Kamala campaign liked that Trump was going to end abortion.

Ted Cruz ran against Colin Allred.  Allred's campaign said that Cruz didn't care about Texas.  Their argument was that during a hurricane in Texas Senator Cruz had taken his family to the safety of a Caribbean Island where there was no hurricane.  All that shows is Ted cared about his family and himself.  His going there didn't hurt Texas.
