Mamdani said he wants the city to buy up housing and convert it to community ownership.  What is the likely consequence of that?

The rent won't go up because landlords won't own the property and so won't raise the rent.
Rent will go up so that there is money to pay for rising costs such as maintaining the property, security etc..
Repairs won't be done in a timely fashion.   There will be leaks and mold the way there is in public housing currently owned by the government.
