aid goes to Hamas.  Oil goes to Hamas.  Food goes to Hamas.  Extends the length of the battle.  Results in more Israelis dying and more Palestinian civilians getting caught in the crossfire and dying. 

Israel wanted to lay siege to Gaza.  The way to conquer an impenetrable fortress is to lay siege to it.  Eventually they'll run out of supplies and surrender.  U.S. insisted on "humanitarian" supplies.
