Trade Deficit

Trade deficits are the result of borrowing money.

Supposing you support your population on welfare.  They are not producing so where do you get the money.  You borrow it and give it to your population.  They buy products.  They don't product them so they buy them from abroad.  Now you have a trade deficit.
