In 1973, Syria launched a surprise attack against Israel -- culminating in a great standoff at the Valley of Tears. 40 tanks led by Avigdor Kahalani held off over 500 Syrian tanks and eventually defeated them. In addition to there being many more Syrian tanks, the Syrian tanks had IR range fires which gave them a big advantage when aiming in the dark. There was a lot of haze and so the Israelis could see the Syrian targetting beams and Kahalani ordered hsi gunners to aim at the sources of those beams. |
