Climate scientists who scare us about global warming are more likely to make money than those who don't. Thomas Sowell talks about this in the video below.
Imagine you are a professor or a politician who warned everyone that rising temperatures are threat to the existence of humanity and who convinced people to vote for politicians who spend money on expensive green energy projects that lead to inflation. Imagine you predicted that lakes would dry up from the heat, that people wouldn't have enough to drink, that beaches would be flooded by rising oceans and so on. Imagine that people are upset about how inflation is making everything more expensive and the green policies you promoted are causing inflation. Then, it got colder. Would you tell everyone "Sorry I was wrong, please forgive me?" Would you tell your employer "Sorry I was wrong, please don't fire me?" Or would you come up with an excuse like, "The old temperature measurements were wrong, it really was colder back then". Would you come up with another excuse like "the Artic is heating because of global warming and weakening the polar vortex so that the Artic air is moving southward so that's why it's so called here in Texas." Would you come up with another excuse like "The oceans are heating faster, you feel cold because you are on land but the oceans are hot?" Would you come up with an excuse like "climate isn't weather, just because it's cold today doesn't mean the climate is colder." The majority of climate alarmists have chosen to make excuses instead of choosing to admit that maybe they were wrong. If you are a politician there is another reason not to admit that you are wrong. If everyone is scared of global warming and you say you'll do something about it people will vote for you. Scaring the population into voting for you is an old trick. The journalist H. L. Mencken wrote in January 1918 that “The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by an endless series of hobgoblins, most of them imaginary.”
What if there were people who said you were wrong? You could say that "we should reconsider our theories, maybe they are right". Or you could call them names like "climate deniers". That makes them look bad because it sounds like Holocaust deniers who are bad people who denied that the Holocaust happened. You could accuse them of being paid to lie by the oil companies. If you were an editor of a magazine about climate you could prevent their articles from being published. If you were social media you could block people who argue with the idea that there is significant man made global warming or who argue that a little warmth isn't that bad. Unfortunately the majority of climate alarmists have chosen not to reconsider their prophecies of a burning earth but instead to make accusations and keep the voices of those they disagree with silent.
Organizations that invest in green energy make more money if people believe they have to depend on green energy and eliminate fossil fuels. They make more money the more people are scared of global warming. For this reason they pay the Associated Press money to plant scary stories of global warming in the press.
Judith Curry used to raise the alarm that the number of hurricanes were increasing. She became the rock star of the climate alarmists. Than she found out she was wrong and admitted it. She tells what happened in this outstanding interview with John Stossel. It is outstanding because it explains why so many scientists and politicians scare people about the climate.
If a political party can convince voters that there will be climate disaster unless voters for for them than they get votes and power. The European Union passes emission mandates showing European voters that they are doing something about climate change. These mandates have disastrous consequences. One disastrous consequence is that the Dutch government uses those mandates as an excuse to show voters that they are doing something about climate change by closing down thousands of farms and buying the land from the farmers with Dutch tax money. In Holland this policy may be back firing as many people are angry at what the government is doing. In the video below you can see a massive rally in Holland against the policies of the Dutch government.
What happens to the people who depended on Dutch farms for food? They'll have to buy their food from other farmers to grow that food. So whatever emissions came from nitrogen fertilizer in Dutch farms will now come from the other farms.

If leaders in government can convince us that we are facing climate catastrophe they can tax companies that emit carbon and redistribute that money to themselves and to people to get their votes. Several states in the United States are suing the oil companies to get money from them on the grounds that those oil companies lied about climate change. One way they say these companies lied was by failing to warn those states that use of oil would lead to rising sea levels which would lead to greater costs from storms such as hurricane Sandy. Is the sea level really rising? Did climate change really increase the severity of Hurricane Sandy? Did fossil fuel use really create significant climate change? Who are the real liars?
United Nations climate official Otto Edenhofer said:
"We redistribute de facto the world's wealth by climate policy"
One of the motives of people who spread alarm about global warming is redistribution of wealth.
In 1988, Christine Stewart, the former Canadian minister of the environment told editors and reporters of the Calgary Herald:
"No matter if the science of global warming is all phony ... climate change [provides] the greatest opportunity to bring about justice and equality in the world."
That sounds wonderful. However there is a lot of injustice and oppression and poverty that results from forced wealth redistribution. There are lessons on this web site about that.
The Green Party site says the Green New Deal is a "major step towards ending unemployment for good and a tool to fight the corporate takeover of our democracy and exploitation of the poor."
The Green New Deal makes energy more expensive and makes people poorer. It gives the government more control over us since the government is collecting our money to supposedly pay for it. The Green New Deal may create jobs to install solar panels but it takes away money from companies that would otherwise hire people.
Biden agreed in November 2022 to transfer a hundred million American tax dollars to countries supposedly victimized by climate change caused by America. Climate alarmists are succeeding in their goal of redistribution of wealth in this case from America to foreign countries. Climate alarmists are also reducing America's wealth by making energy more expensive which leads to inflation and higher costs.
Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's former chief of staff, Saikat Chakrabarti, admitted that the motivation behind introducing her Green New Deal is to overhaul the "entire economy." The Green New Deal was a plan to spend trillions of dollars supposedly to fight climate change.
Some of the people who warn us about global warming do so because they do believe it will bring disaster to the earth. In the second video below the speaker mentions Greta Thunberg. She scolded world leaders in a speech in the United Nations for not taking enough action to stop climate change. When she was 15 years old, she started spending her school days outside the Swedish Parliament to call for stronger action on climate change by holding up a sign reading Skolstrejk för klimatet (School strike for climate). Others joined her and she became a famous spokesperson against climate change. She believes that global warming will ruin her future and the future of other young people.
The speaker also mentions Leonardo DiCaprio flying in a private jet. Private Jets produce a lot of carbon dioxide which climate alarmists believe causes global warming.
The speaker also mentioned Al Gore who is a famous environmental activist who raised the alarm about global warming. Al Gore was also vice president of the United States when Bill Clinton was president. Al Gore also flies around in a private jet.
Obama who has often promised to reduce CO2 emissions, bought a large multimillion dollar property on Martha's vineyard which is right on the ocean. If he was really believed climate change propaganda he would believe that the seas will rise in the near future and drown his property. What he does believe and rightfully so is that speaking out against CO2 emissions will get him the votes of people who terrified of climate change and who believe that reducing CO2 emissions will stop it. Convincing people that a climate change disaster is coming that they will act to prevent is a way to get votes.
Unlike Leonardo and Al Gore, Greta Thunberg wouldn't even fly in a regular jet. She sailed across the Atlantic to attend climate meetings at the U.N.. She sincerely believes that global warming will devastate our planet. Here is a video of her arriving in NY on a sailboat and calling for action on global warming.
In the video below the speaker exposes how concern about global warming is not the only reason for climate conferences.
Some Climate alarmists believe that taxing fossil fuels and charging for their use will raise money that can be distributed to the poor. A big problem with that idea is that taxing fossil fuels causes the costs for everyone to go up including the poor. Fossil fuels are used to heat buildings. Add a tax to the cost of fossil fuels and the cost of heating buildings goes up. The landlords have to raise the rents to get enough money to pay to heat the building. Fossil fuels are used to move food in trucks to supermarkets. Increase the cost of fossil fuels and it will cost more for truckers to move food to stores. The truckers will be forced to charge the store owners more who in turn will be forced to charge the consumers more so that they can pay for the food. Costs get passed down to the consumer. Increase the cost of energy and everyone pays more including the poor. That is exactly what is happening as the Biden administration stops gas pipelines and makes gas very expensive.
There is a phrase I've heard used by Dr. Susan Crockford called "noble cause corruption". The idea is that people lie to advance what they believe is a noble cause. There has been an awful lot of lying by climate activists to alarm us about the climate. Not only that they suppress the voices of those who expose their lies. One of the lies were how polar bears were dying because of global warming. Dr. Susan Crockford was fired from her job after she pointed out that the population of polar bears was increasing.
Which brings us to perhaps the most important reason that climate scientists tell us we are facing climate catastrophe, fear. Not fear that there will be climate catastrophe but fear that they will lose their jobs if they don't say so.
Enemies of the United States see climate alarmism as an opportunity to impoverish and weaken the United States. Pamela Geller wrote an article titled "China Funneled Millions to US Universities, Nonprofits To Promote Climate Hoax and Destroy the US Energy Industry". In 2014 – the same year Russia annexed Crimea – then-North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen warned that Russia was covertly working to undermine European and U.S. fossil fuel production. Three years later, in 2017, Reps. Lamar Smith (R-Texas) and Randy Weber (R-Texas) sent a lengthy letter to then-Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin making a similar accusation.
