9.3 Don't the Palestinians Have the Right to be Free?
Demonstrators against Israel often chant "Palestine will be Free, From the River to the Sea".
That seems reasonable. We all want everyone to be free. The problem is what they mean by being free. Palestinian Arab citizens of Israel already have the right to vote. They have representatives in the Israeli government. They are just as free as any Jewish citizen. In fact they are freer than any Arab across the Middle East. So what do they mean? They mean they want to rule a Palestine free of Jews. How do we know that? They say so.
The chant From the River to the Sea, Palestine Will Be Free comes from an Arabic chant except that Arabic chant is a little different. It has been sanitized in English for propaganda purposes. In the following clip we hear what the phrase is in Arabic.
There have been massive demonstrations against Israel around the world because of its war with Hamas in Gaza. Israel signed a ceasefire agreement with Hamas which started on October 10, 2025. Hamas then emerged from its tunnels and started killing Gazans who were pro-Israel. I haven't seen any demonstrations against Hamas.
Just before Israel declared independence and the surrounding Arab countries attacked Abdul Rahman Hassan Azzam, the Secretary-General of the Arab League said that were a war to take place with the proposed establishment of a Jewish state, it would lead to
A war of extermination and momentous massacre which will be spoken of like the Mongolian massacre and the Crusades.
Islamic Jihad leader, Ramadan Abdalla Shalah said (Mid-East Mirror, November 10, 1996):
In the end Israel will disappear as the Koran states. From the standpoint of the Koran, there is no place for Israel and its existence is not justifiable.
Dr. Muhammed Ibrahim Madi, said on Palestinian Television, on March 30, 2001 we the Palestinian nation, our fate from Allah is to be the vanguard in the war against the Jews until the resurrection of the dead, as the prophet Muhammad said:
"The resurrection of the dead will not arrive until you will fight the Jews and kill them…"
The Hamas Charter instructs:
"We [all Palestinians] know the Palestinian problem is a religious one, to be dealt with on this premise... 'I swear by that [sic] who holds in his hands the Soul of Muhammad! I indeed wish to go to war for the sake of Allah! I will assault and kill, assault and kill, assault and kill.'"
They chant that it is from the river to the sea. Where is that? Lets take a look at a map of Israel.

The modern day state of Israel is between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean sea. When protestors chant Palestine will be free from the river to the sea they mean all of Israel will be free of Jews.
What would happen to the Arabs if there was no Israeli government? Arabs in Israel have more freedom than they have in any Arab country. Many Arabs are oppressed by Hamas and the Palestinian Authority already. Caroline Glick in an article titled Welcome to Palestine explained: that Palestinian controlled areas are a nightmare. She wrote
Children are woken up in the middle of the night and murdered in front of their parents. Worshipers in mosques are gunned down by terrorists who attend competing mosques... Ambulances are stopped on the way to hospitals and wounded are shot in cold blood. Terrorists enter operating rooms in hospitals and unplug patients from life-support machines... Christians are persecuted, robbed and beaten in what can only be viewed as a systematic campaign to end the Christian presence in places like Bethlehem.
Arabs living in Israel know they are better off living under an Israeli government than a Palestinian one. According to a 2021 survey (poll) undertaken by the Palestinian Shfa publication, 93 percent of Palestinian Arabs in Jerusalem—all non-Israeli citizens—prefer to remain under Israeli rule and would not give up their Israeli identity cards. Only 84 respondents out of 1,200 surveyed said they would prefer to live under the Palestinian Authority. However, even of those 84, 79 said they also would not give up their Israeli identity cards.
Christine Williams wrote:
I have personally had Arab cab drivers tell me that they hate the Palestinian Authority and love living in Israel, where they can work and are treated better by the Israeli government. Israel is one of the most diverse countries in the world, and its varied citizens live together in peace, except, of course, for the Palestinian “resistance.”
Natasha Hausdorff gave a talk debunking Arab propaganda against Israel including the idea that Israel makes Arabs less free. You can hear her speak in the video below.
Palestinian Arabs have a home in Israel and outside of Israel. The whole state of Jordan was cut off from the original Jewish National Home and given to the Palestinian Arabs. Jordan is a Palestinian State. Hamas rules Gaza. Gaza is another Palestinian state. The Palestinian Authority rules areas in Judea and Samaria. That is also a Palestinian state. Some confused leaders in the Western world think the way to bring peace to the Middle East is to create two states, one Palestinian and one Israeli, by carving the Palestinian state out of Israel. They ignore the fact that there already are Palestinian states and there is no peace.
Many Arabs have said that there are no differences between Palestinian Arabs and other Arabs. Zuheir Mohsein when he was a member of the supreme council of the Palestinian Liberation Organization said:
"There are no differences between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanese. We are all part of one nation. It is only for political reasons that we carefully underline our Palestinian identity, because it is in the interest of the Arabs to encourage a separate Palestinian identity in contrast to Zionism. Yes, the existence of a separate Palestinian identity is there only for tactical reasons. The establishment of a Palestinian state is a new expedient to continue the fight against Zionism
When the British ruled Palestine, Palestinians referred to anyone living in the area be they Muslim and Jewish. The idea of a separate Palestinian people was created by the KGB. Robert Spencer, in his book The History of Jihad wrote:
In order to destroy the impression of the tiny Jewish state's facing enormous Muslim Arab foes and prevailing, the Soviet KGB developed the ficiton of an even smaller people, the "Palestinians" menaced by a well-oiled and ruthless Israeli war machine
Ion Mihai Pacepa, who had served as acting chief of Cold War era Communist Romania's spy service, later revealed that "the PLO was dreamt up by the KGB, which had a penchant for "liberation" organizations. There
In otherwords the Palestinian Arabs want the world on their side. If the world thinks of them as a small people bullied by a big Israel the world will be on their side and turn against Israel..However is that really the case? The blue on this map is Israel. The tan colored countries are the Arab world.

Why don't protestors chant "From the River to the Sea, Israel will cease to be" instead of "From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be free". The reason is they want people to sympathize with them and to see Israel as an oppressor. If they chanted "Israel will cease to be" people would realize that they are filled with hate and want to kill Jews and would not sympathize and support them. If you click here you will see a video of protestors in Grand Central Station who make it clear that they want Israel gone.
Arab propagandists tell us that there will be peace if only the West Bank is freed from the "Israeli occupation" and Israel takes back the "Palestinian" refugees. Yet the Arabs tried to destroy Israel when there were no refugees in 1948. They founded the Palestinian Liberation Organization before Israel liberated Judea and Samaria (the West Bank). What were they planning to liberate when they already controlled the West Bank? There propaganda consists of lies that have successfully fooled many people in the West. Many people think the Arabs wouldn't hate the West if only the West wouldn't support Israel but Muslims hate the West because the West is full of infidels. Israel is in the way.
